BEE project: High-school students design their own “green” businesses through the BEE Project

As part of the European initiative BEE (Bioeconomy Entrepreneurship Education), EduQuest successfully completed a series of educational activities at the 1st General High School of Naoussa, aiming to foster youth entrepreneurship and promote environmental awareness.

Students had the opportunity to explore the concept of bioeconomy, namely the creation of value through the use of renewable resources, and to understand how local materials and residues can be transformed into business opportunities.

Through interactive methods and modern tools (such as Donella Meadows’ Leverage Points, the Impact Gaps Canvas and the Business Model Canvas), participants gained insight into how meaningful change requires intervention at multiple levels of a system, from practices and relationships to deeper mindsets. Then the students developed their own business ideas, addressing real needs within their local community.

The ideas presented included:

Sustainable fashion, with a focus on second-hand platforms and creative reuse (upcycling) of old clothing
Valorization of agricultural residues, including the production of cosmetics, fertilizers, and biofuels from natural materials
Reduction of plastic use in agriculture, through innovative reuse practices and alternative materials
Creative reuse of urban waste, transforming it into functional objects or works of art

The initiative concluded with pitching sessions, during which the teams presented their ideas, highlighting both their sustainability and social impact.

The BEE project showcased the potential of young people to actively contribute to the transition towards a more sustainable and circular economy through education, creativity, and innovation.

Because the future of entrepreneurship is sustainable and it starts with education.

Presentation of Naoussa’s European Actions by EduQuest at the Aegean College Conference on “Ecological Crisis & Economic Impact”

Representatives of EduQuest traveled to Athens to present the educational initiatives implemented in Naoussa regarding the Circular Economy and the Bioeconomy.

The 2nd conference “Ecological Crisis & Economic Impact: Adaptation, Innovation & Resilience” organized by Aegean College under the auspices of the Region of Attica and the Ministry of Environment & Energy, aimed to highlight the multi-level relationships between the climate crisis, innovation, and sustainable development.

In this context, Charalambos Vassiliadis, representing EduQuest, participated as an honorary speaker on the conference panel. In his speech, Mr. Vassiliadis presented the challenges faced by rural areas, as well as the need for funding for the education of young people in critical sectors of the economy. He also presented the co-funded European programs implemented in Naoussa through EduQuest, in collaboration with the 1st Gymnasium of Naoussa “LAPPEIO” (RECIBIOS project) and the 1st Lyceum of Naoussa (BEE project), as innovative initiatives to strengthen students’ skills and knowledge on environmental issues.

Erasmus+ in Belgium: EduQuest and Naoussa schools continue their activities

The second meeting of the Erasmus+ program for the “BEE” (Bioeconomy and Entrepreneurship in Education) project was successfully held at the RHIZO1 school in Kortrijk, Belgium.

The meeting was attended by teachers and representatives of organizations from the countries participating in the Program, which aims to establish a comprehensive framework for cooperation for the development of the bioeconomy and entrepreneurship in the educational process. Greece was represented by the non-profit organisation EduQuest and the 1st General Lyceum of Naoussa, with teachers Maria Ziouzia and Elsa Maliasa, while Belgium was represented by the RHIZO1 school in collaboration with the CÖOPERATIE DOON educational group (Netherlands).

During this second meeting, the participants discussed the progress of the program, evaluated and provided feedback on the work done so far, exchanged ideas, and planned actions for the implementation of the program through experiential presentations and practices. The framework for cooperation and communication was also reformulated, with particular emphasis on collective processes for achieving the objectives.

The “BEE” project

The “BEE” project aims to create a transnational educational model-tool that will enhance students’ skills in bioeconomy, innovation, and entrepreneurship, while promoting sustainable development through practical tools in school.

The enthusiasm and dedication shown by all partners during the meeting were excellent examples of the excellent work being done in the implementation of this project. The partners committed to continuing their close cooperation, with the next meeting scheduled for spring 2026. The meeting was an important step towards the success of the program, demonstrating the power of international cooperation in the field of education.

Preparatory Erasmus+ Meeting in the Netherlands: Collaboration on Bioeconomy and Entrepreneurship in Education

The preparatory meeting for the “BEE” (Bioeconomy and Entrepreneurship in Education) initiative was successfully held from January 21 to 23, 2025, at Stanislas Pro school in Rijswijk, Netherlands.

The meeting brought together educators and representatives of organizations from three countries to establish a comprehensive framework for collaboration on integrating bioeconomy and entrepreneurship into the educational process. Greece was represented by 1st General Lyceum of Naoussa and the non-profit organization Eduquest, while Belgium participated through Rizho School in partnership with the innovation organization Doon.

During the meeting, participants exchanged ideas, defined strategic objectives, and planned joint actions to implement the program. The “BEE” project aims to create a transnational educational model that enhances students’ skills in bioeconomy, innovation, and entrepreneurship while promoting sustainable development.

The partners committed to maintaining close collaboration, with the next meeting scheduled for autumn 2025.

This meeting marked a significant step toward the project’s success, showcasing the power of international collaboration in education.

New Erasmus+ project in Naoussa on bioeconomy and entrepreneurship for high school students

In October 2025, a new project was launched in Naoussa entitled “BEE- BIOECONOMY ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION (BEE),” which is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Program in the category of Small-Scale Projects in School Education.

The BEE project aims to empower high school students aged 15-18 to become the future entrepreneurs of the bioeconomy and contribute to Europe’s green transition. Through an innovative educational program, BEE will introduce students to the bioeconomy, sustainable entrepreneurship, and systems thinking.

Led by DOON (Netherlands) and partnered by RHIZO (Belgium), Stanislascollege (Netherlands), 1st General High School of Naoussa (Naoussa, Greece), and EDUQUEST (Naoussa, Greece), the BEE project combines expertise in secondary education, bioeconomy, and entrepreneurship through cross-border cooperation.

The main activities to be carried out within the project are:

Assessment of students’ existing knowledge of the bioeconomy and entrepreneurship.
Identification of the skills required of a bioeconomy entrepreneur
Creation of a comprehensive guide for teachers, including interactive resources for teaching the above concepts in the classroom.
Organization of international workshops to strengthen teachers’ teaching skills in bioeconomy topics.
Testing the program in partner schools.
Holding bioeconomy competitions for students, culminating in a final conference to share the project results.

The main objectives of the project are to identify the skills required of an entrepreneur working in the bioeconomy sector and to strengthen the skills of students and teachers in the above areas.
