PROJECT DESCRIPTION
How much do we really know about the European policies that shape our food, our environment, and rural life?
CAPaware is a European project that aims to help citizens better understand the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and why it matters for our food, the environment, and rural communities.
Although the CAP plays an important role in everyday life, many people are not familiar with how it works or how EU decisions shape the future of agriculture. Through participatory workshops, educational initiatives, and awareness campaigns, CAPaware promotes active citizenship and strengthens democratic engagement. At the same time, it creates spaces where citizens, educators, farmers, and local stakeholders can exchange perspectives, share experiences, and explore common challenges.
Our main objectives are:
- Raise awareness and improve understanding of the Common Agricultural Policy among citizens.
- Encourage active democratic participation in EU-level policy dialogue.
- Empower young people, farmers, educators, and local communities as informed stakeholders.
- Promote EU values such as inclusion, gender equality, and non-discrimination.
- Strengthen cross-border cooperation between rural communities in Greece and Italy.
Through workshops, educational activities, digital tools, and awareness campaigns, the project encourages young people, farmers, educators, and local communities to engage in meaningful dialogue about sustainable agriculture and Europe’s future.
Citizens will develop a clearer understanding of the CAP, its objectives, and its impact on everyday life, alongside increased confidence to participate in democratic dialogue and policy discussions.
Young people will gain knowledge about EU agricultural policies through interactive and digital tools, strengthening their sense of European citizenship and civic responsibility.
Educators and facilitators will enhance their capacity to address complex EU policy topics using inclusive and participatory learning methodologies.
Local communities will strengthen networks between citizens, institutions, and stakeholders, fostering long-term engagement with sustainable agriculture and EU policymaking.
By connecting communities in Greece and Italy, CAPaware promotes cooperation, democratic participation, and the exchange of ideas, helping citizens move from simple awareness to active involvement.
